Caitlin Parker makes history, secures Australia's first Olympic medal in women's boxing

Australian boxer Caitlin Parker has made history, becoming the first female Australian boxer to win an Olympic medal.

Parker, 25, defeated Morocco's Oumaima Belahbib in the women's middleweight quarter-final on Tuesday to guarantee herself at least a bronze medal.

The victory marks a significant moment for Australian boxing, as it is the first time a woman from the country has won an Olympic medal in the sport.

Parker, who was born in Melbourne in 1996, has been boxing since she was a teenager. She has won two Commonwealth Games medals, a silver in 2018 and a bronze in 2014.

She will now face off against Li Qian of China in the semi-finals on Thursday, with the chance to win a gold medal.
