Sydney Covid: Covid-19 restrictions to ease in Sydney from Monday

What you need to know:

  • Masks will no longer be mandatory in most indoor settings, including retail, hospitality and workplaces, from Monday.
  • Masks will still be required on public transport, in health care settings and for workers in aged care and disability care.
  • Density limits will be lifted in all settings, including hospitality venues and places of worship.
  • QR code check-ins will no longer be required at most venues, except for high-risk settings such as nightclubs and music festivals.
  • Singing and dancing will be allowed in all settings, including nightclubs.

The details:

The easing of restrictions comes as New South Wales records a sustained decline in Covid-19 cases and hospitalisations. The state reported 9265 new cases and 15 deaths on Sunday.

Premier Dominic Perrottet said the changes were a "significant step forward" for the state.

"We have reached a point where we can safely and confidently ease restrictions," he said.

"These changes will provide a much-needed boost to our economy and our community.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard urged people to remain vigilant and to get vaccinated.

"The pandemic is not over," he said. "We still need to be careful and to protect ourselves and others.

"Please get vaccinated and boosted if you haven't already. It is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones."
